Abstract
It has been demonstrated that green roofs and highly reflective roofing products can lower rooftop temp-eratures. The authors will analyze a fully instrumented roof in Minnesota that utilizes three types of roofing systems: an extensive green roof, white reflective roof coatings and PVC membrane, and a black EPDM. Each section of the roof is instrumented to measure surface and ambient air temperatures. Separate HVAC units are instrumented in each section of the roof to measure energy consumption and temperature performance. Heat transfer through the roofing systems and energy usage of the HVAC units will be used to evaluate energy performance of each roof system.
