Abstract
The Virginia General Assembly recently passed legislation authorizing the establishment of a nutrient credit trading program in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Although the details of the program remain to be developed, the use of Green Roofs is one of the BMPs that may be used as an offset or credit to achieve compliance or accommodate growth. This new program creates economic incentives to control urban storm water, and, therefore, is an excellent opportunity for those who are involved in Green Roofs to promote the use of this innovative technique in Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay watershed.
