Abstract
The 20,000 square-foot roof top garden of Chicago’s City Hall is planted with over 20,000 plants. The Chicago Department of Environment initiated a monitoring program for birds and insects on the roof top garden in 2002 and a plant monitoring program in 2003. Working with the Chicago Audubon Society and an entomologist from The Field Museum of Natural History, specific protocols have been developed to monitor for birds, insects and plants.
