Abstract
Green roof technology has reached a level of interest that goes beyond general benefits or a list of case studies. In order to successfully bid and build a green roof more specific knowledge is needed to specify a green roof. Most commonly, practitioners specify green roof systems, which places control and design responsibilities, along with material selection on a system manufacturer. While this is a workable approach, it may not always be the most cost effective solution for the client and/or the best functional green roof for the project. “Lets cut to the chase: Specifying a green roof” will step-by-step address critical information necessary for specifying green roofs. Green roof design and build options will be discussed in this paper to give practitioners the knowledge and confidence to succeed in green roof design, while enabling a contractor to successfully install it.
