Abstract
Parapets have been around for centuries. Derived from the Italian word parapetto, a parapet is a permanent barrier that acts an extension (usually by a few feet) of the wall at the roof's edge. A parapet maybe a portion of an exterior wall that continues above the edge line of the roof surface or may be a continuation of a vertical feature beneath the roof such as a firewall.
