Abstract
The first of its kind in North America, the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s green roof inventory illustrates both the challenges and benefits of creating a green roof inventory. The inventory and accompanying report provide insight into the historical and current motivations and trends, as well as the performance issues and implementation challenges of the green roof industry in the Vancouver Region. Inventories represent a potentially valuable tool for professionals and municipalities in the development of local green roof policy, planning, and education. In addition to illustrating the types, numbers, and geographical distribution of green roofs in a region, inventories can help identify regional issues and perceptions—misconceptions, interests, and oncerns—regarding green roofs, and their subsequent impact on the present and possibly future development of the local/regional industry.
