AI cannot—and should not—do everything for your business

It seems every day businesses are finding new ways to use artificial intelligence. However, it is important to remember that although AI can be useful for certain business tasks, there are many instances in which humans can offer a better experience for customers.

If you are looking to integrate AI into your business, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers the following reminders of business tasks AI cannot do.

  • Provide five-star customer service. Although there are aspects of customer service AI can improve—such as a chatbot on your website that is available 24/7 to answer basic questions—customer concerns often reach beyond a bot’s training, and a live support agent is needed. It can cause frustration if someone is looking for an answer to a question, a bot fails to answer it and there is not a live person to help.
  • Create a marketing strategy. Although AI can generate blog posts, write marketing emails and distribute social media content, there is no guarantee the content it creates will resonate with your customers and produce results. It is up to your human team to know your audience because they interact with your customers daily.
  • Human resources and hiring. AI can automate repetitive tasks, such as interview scheduling, but it cannot find the right fit for your business or convince a candidate to accept your job offer. You need humans during the hiring process and to help meet the needs of your current employees.
  • Quality control. Although tools such as ChatGPT can create content quickly, there are quality issues and possible copyright infringement or plagiarism risks that can damage a business’s reputation. AI tools can include errors and poor grammar, so it is important your team examines copy before it is released to the public. And only humans can tailor the copy to your brand’s voice and make sure all your content is consistent.
