Amended OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements take effect

It is time once again for employers to submit their injury and illness data to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the new year brings changes to OSHA’s Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses regulatory standard.

Effective Jan. 1, OSHA implemented new reporting requirements that increase the number of employers required to submit their OSHA Form 300 log and Form 301 incident reports to OSHA. Employers with 100 or more employees in certain high-hazard industries, including roofing, must now submit this information annually.

Existing reporting requirements for employers with 20-249 employees in certain high-hazard industries, such as roofing, and employers with 250 or more employees in industries that must routinely keep OSHA injury and illness records were not affected.

Additional OSHA recordkeeping and reporting reminders include:

  • Organizations with more than 10 employees and not listed as a partially exempt industry are required to record and report serious occupational injuries and illnesses. Learn more about these requirements
  • From Jan. 2 through March 2, employers can verify reporting requirements and electronically submit reports via the Injury Tracking Application. Employers covered by an OSHA-approved state plan should contact their state plan directly for reporting requirements.
  • Employers who are required to complete OSHA Form 300A-Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses also are required to post their 300A Form from Feb. 1 through April 30 in conspicuous places where notices to employees are customarily posted.
  • Regarding severe injury reporting, employers must report to OSHA any worker fatality within eight hours and any amputation, loss of an eye or hospitalization of a worker within 24 hours, regardless of company size or industry. Reports can be filed by calling the 24-hour hotline at (800) 321-6742 or via OSHA’s online reporting tool
