Connecticut contractor pleads guilty to omitting more than $1 million on tax returns

Mark Edwards, owner of Mark Edwards Roofing and Siding LLC, Newtown, Conn., has pleaded guilty in federal court to aiding in the preparation of a false tax return that included omitting more than $1 million in income on his tax returns during several years, according to The News-Times. The company is not an NRCA member.

Edwards reportedly did not keep accurate records or perform bookkeeping for his company from as early as 2018. When preparing his income tax returns, Edwards gave his tax preparer handwritten income and expense numbers that underreported his gross receipts by at least $1.3 million for the 2019-23 tax years, leading to a tax loss of $368,334 for the IRS.

Edwards faces a maximum of three years in prison at his sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
