Construction jobs were added in 20 states from November 2025 to December 2025

Twenty states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in December 2025, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-four states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.

“Although a majority of states added construction employees over the year, employment has stalled in the latest month,” said AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson. “Too many projects have been postponed or canceled due to lack of funding, financing costs, or policy uncertainty about tariffs and immigration enforcement.”

Arizona added the most construction jobs from November 2025 to December 2025—3,900—and Montana had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—3%. From December 2024 to December 2025, Texas added the most construction jobs—15,700—and Hawaii had the largest percentage increase—8.7%.

Minnesota lost the largest number of construction jobs (-9,900) for the month and had the largest percentage decline (-6.6%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-19,800) and Nevada had the largest percentage decline (-9.3%).
