Twenty-two states added construction jobs in July, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-one states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.
“The number of states with construction job gains continues to slip, on both a monthly and a year-over-year basis,” said Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “Owners have delayed project starts in the face of ever-changing tariff, funding and labor force policies, while contractors are experiencing sudden losses of workers.”
Colorado added the most construction jobs from June to July—3,800—and Oregon had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—2.6%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs—27,000—and New Mexico had the largest percentage increase—14.3%.
California lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,300) for the month and Wyoming had the largest percentage decline (-3.4%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-18,200) and New Jersey had the largest percentage decline (-4.9%).
