Twenty-eight states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in June, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-three states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.
“Construction employment gains were more widespread in June, with more states adding jobs than losing them over both the month and the year,” said Macrina Wilkins, AGC’s director of market insights. “States benefiting from strong infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and data center investment continue to lead construction hiring, while higher financing costs remain a headwind for several private construction sectors.”
Texas added the most construction jobs from May to June—5,200—and New Mexico had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—3.2%. From June 2025 to June, Texas added the most construction jobs—24,800—and Louisiana had the largest percentage increase—7.7%.
California lost the largest number of construction jobs (-4,100) for the month and Montana had the largest percentage decline (-1.6%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-15,400) and New Hampshire had the largest percentage decline (-2.5%).
