FC Cincinnati stadium will feature LED-lit canopy roof

FC Cincinnati, a Major League Soccer club based in Cincinnati, has unveiled designs for its $250 million stadium project in the city’s West End, according to www.wlwt.com.

Designed by architecture firm Populous, the new stadium is meant to be unique and inspiring.

“We’re not creating this concrete monument or steel-encased monument that has maybe an imposing look from outside," says Jeff Berding, president and general manager of FC Cinicnnati. “But instead, we have these vertical fins.”

The stadium includes a swooping roof design sheathed in 513 wave-like vertical “fins,” with each fin bearing custom LED lighting that can be programmed to glow and pulsate, which is meant to give the stadium a striking exterior appearance.

The 360-degree canopy roof will cover all 26,000 seats in the stadium.

According to www.mlssoccer.com, Berding says: “We incorporated a lot of research and first-person feedback from fans and executives around the league with the goal of setting a new standard for both design and experience. We firmly believe we’ve not only matched the league’s best but pushed the bar further and will deliver a superior fan experience for our incredible fan base.”

The stadium is scheduled to open in March 2021.
