Great leaders are excellent communicators who inspire their teams to achieve success.
Harvard Business Review offers the following four strategies to help you communicate effectively and motivate your team.
- Be straightforward. When communicating via writing, use simple language to explain complex concepts. Long, complicated sentences require more concentration and make written ideas more difficult to understand.
- Use powerful metaphors. When you introduce a new idea, using a metaphor that compares the idea to a familiar image or concept can be a great tool.
- Humanize data. If you are sharing a data point, humanize it by placing the number in perspective to make it engaging, memorable and persuasive.
- Highlight your mission. Emphasize and communicate your company’s purpose in meetings, memos, emails and presentations so your team knows what the company stands for.
