Whether you are giving a presentation at a conference, to your customers or to your employees, establishing trust with your audience is an important part of conveying your message.
Harvard Business Review recommends focusing on the following key areas.
- Competency. Demonstrate expert knowledge regarding your topic by sharing current industry trends and incorporating anecdotes.
- Clarity. Identify the goal of your presentation in advance and use a clear structure with logical transitions to achieve that goal. Practice reading your presentation out loud and refine it as needed.
- Compassion. Speak directly to your audience’s needs; highlight what is relevant to them; and make them believe they are heard and understood.
- Connection. Include personal examples in your presentation that demonstrate vulnerability and transparency to help you better connect emotionally with your audience.
