NRCA asked …

What roofing industry advocacy issue is most important to you? Three NRCA members share their answers.

Scott Gipson

There are a growing number of meaningful issues we are called to advocate for on behalf of our roofing industry. However, for me, it is critical we confront our critical labor shortage through thoughtful planning regarding training, education, NRCA ProCertification® and, of course, immigration reform. Stimulus efforts, reconciliation and infrastructure will be meaningful only if we have the skilled resources to complete the work.

—Scott Gipson, FiberTite Roofing Systems/Seaman Corp., Wooster, Ohio

Gary Howes

Immigration is the biggest issue to me. Year in and year out, we all are generally suffering most from a lack of qualified and willing workers in our industry. We need to have an efficient and legal process established that allows those from other countries to come to the U.S. to work and earn a living wage. The current process is too slow and arbitrary.

—Gary Howes, The Durable Slate Co., Columbus, Ohio

Jayne Williams

Immigration and employee availability is the most important advocacy effort for me. NRCA knows our issues and works hard to help us.

—Jayne Williams, KPost Roofing & Waterproofing, Dallas
