NRCA member seeks to raise awareness about mental health

NRCA member Wagner Roofing Co., Hyattsville, Md., will hold the “Fit Body, Fit Mind” Challenge in conjunction with the Virtual Race Across America to help raise awareness about mental health.

Earlier this year, Wagner Roofing partnered with acclaimed professional cycling journalist Rupert Guinness in his effort to raise awareness for mental health through Race Across America—a cycling event across the U.S. that ends in Maryland, about 25 miles from Wagner Roofing’s office. However, because of COVID-19, the race was canceled for the first time in 40 years.

Rupert and his team used their voices and his platform to resurrect the event virtually, allowing anyone throughout the world to participate from the comfort of their homes. The new event is called Virtual Race Across America.

Dean Jagusch, president of Wagner Roofing, is passionate about the positive effects exercise has on mental health and saw an opportunity to raise awareness. Pulling from the original event, where racers have 12 days to complete the race, Wagner Roofing created a general fitness challenge.

During the “Fit Body, Fit Mind” challenge, participants must exercise for one hour per day from June 16-28 to help raise awareness for mental health. Wagner Roofing is tracking all the exercise activities and participants through a free fitness app called Strava.
