Reife Petersen, owner of JKS Construction and Engineering, Cape Coral, Fla., has been arrested by state authorities and is accused of stealing nearly $1 million from customers and spending it on expensive items for himself, according to WINK. JKS Construction and Engineering is not an NRCA member.
Multiple homeowners say Petersen told them he would complete their roofing projects, but their projects were never completed. Homeowner Whitney Christy hired JKS Construction and Engineering after Hurricane Ian and paid more than $31,000 for roof repairs; she said no work was done, and no supplies were delivered.
An arrest warrant from the Florida Department of Financial Services includes 24 instances of insurance fraud. Petersen faces 20 felony charges, including grand theft and scheme to defraud.
Petersen’s attorney plans to file a not guilty plea, saying he will examine the allegations and evaluate what happened.
State investigators say Petersen funneled money through an account linked to RG Worldwide—a company investigators say was not a legitimate business. Petersen’s attorney said most of the funds were used for legitimate purposes.
