U.S. Chamber of Commerce takes steps to fight opioid epidemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the opioid crisis, leading to heightened awareness of the effects it is having in the U.S., including for highly susceptible industries such as construction, according to www.forconstructionpros.com. In 2017, the National Safety Council reported 15% of construction workers face struggles with substance abuse.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Medical Association reports the U.S. has seen an increase in opioid-related mortality, and the pandemic’s continued presence is expected to have lasting effects on the opioid crisis for the immediate future.

With the opioid crisis reaching epidemic proportions, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, AmerisourceBergen Foundation and iHeartMedia partnered to create Sharing Solutions: A Virtual Nationwide Tour. The campaign shares innovative workforce solutions while supporting businesses in their fight against substance abuse.

The campaign began as an online resource hub designed to address the opioid crisis by requiring businesses to share information, use resources and take an active stance in fighting the opioid epidemic.

The virtual tour of 2021 began Jan. 19 and will continue throughout the U.S. Tour events will include conversations with leading experts and key public figures and will be free and open to the public. Learn more.
