What does your company do to support employees’ mental health and well-being? Three NRCA members share their answers.
At Weathercraft Co. of Colorado Springs, we recognize the importance of supporting mental health and well-being among our team members and community. We have implemented various initiatives to create a supportive, nurturing environment. Understanding that mental health often is overlooked or carries a stigma, especially among men, we’ve taken proactive steps to address this issue. Our team members actively participate in our local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, dedicating time and energy to support groups and awareness campaigns. Additionally, we’ve integrated discussions about mental health into our Monday safety meetings. We firmly believe prioritizing mental health isn’t just about well-being—it’s also about safety. A distracted mind is at risk of injury, and by fostering a supportive environment, we mitigate potential risks and create a safer workplace for everyone.

Supporting employees’ mental health and well-being is crucial at Houck. The first step is to truly care!
We have a chief wellness officer role; a committee focusing on employee wellness and social connections; and a Mental Health First Aiders group to help employees get connected to help. We continually communicate to and educate our employees about mental health in various ways (e-mails, newsletters, mailings, posters, toolbox talks and social media) while promoting resources to normalize getting mental health support if needed. We work closely with our vendors to ensure we are prioritizing mental health in our benefits. We also have a certified Vital Cog trainer on staff who trained our leadership team regarding suicide prevention, and we currently are working to spread Vital Cog to the rest of our employees.
We believe prioritizing mental health and overall wellness, not just traditional safety, is one way to keep our employees safe and healthy.
