This review was prepared by he Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA), the Bitumen Waterproofing Association (BWA), the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), and the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA), to provide a general information resource for mployees, customers and others interested in the bitumen roofing industry and potential exposures to bitumen fumes. It presents broadly representative descriptions and summaries of the industry’s products, operations and associated exposures, based on information that is published in the open literature or otherwise readily available to the general public and believed to be reliable. The reader is advised that, particularly because of the complexity of bitumen and the operations in which it is used, the general descriptions and summaries presented here may not be applicable to a specific business, product or operation, past or present. Although every reasonable effort has been made to be thorough and accurate in preparing this review, the sponsoring organizations cannot accept responsibility for any inaccuracies it may contain.
