Abstract
Hurricane Andrew caused very extensive roof covering damage in south Florida. This paper describes clay and concrete tile (the predominate steep slope roof covering) damage and failure modes, discusses unique aspects of tile performance in hurricane-prone regions, discusses missile (windborne debris) impact research, and provides recommendations for enhanced tile performance in hurricane and other high-wind environments.`
